Must-See Shows of the Week

If you enjoy live shows and smaller venues, I suggest you start taking advantage of New York's music scene. Here are my recommendations for the week..

October 5, Saturday - Daughter (Terminal 5)

After two very successful EPs, Daughter's debut album If You Leave has finally been released this past April. Their combination of vulnerable lyrics and confident tunes makes for songs that are coated with melancholy. Some songs get so personal that you might feel as if you're invading the trio's privacy. They're a must-see if you enjoy Lana del Rey, Angus and Julia Stone or Cat Power.

October 8, TuesdayLondon Grammar (Gramercy Theater)

London Grammar is an English trio with an indie-pop sound. They're currently touring the U.S. for their newly released album If You Wait. Like Daughter, their songs have melancholic guitar undertones and ethereal vocals, though I would not go as far to say the two sound alike. If you enjoy Florence Welch's vocals, or like listening to Sade or Marina and the Diamonds, you should definitely go see them live. In the meantime, you can listen to their songs here.

October 10, ThursdayTwo Door Cinema Club (Manhattan Center's Hammerstein Ballroom)

I guess Two Door Cinema Club needs no introductions. The band is known for their indie-rock tunes with a certain electronic urbanity and catchy guitar flavors. If you're a fan of Phoenix or Foster the People, Two Door Cinema Club won't disappoint.
